Baba Ram Rahim Case Aftereffects- Lessons to be learnt

While followers of Baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh are creating rampage in Haryana and other parts of the country, just after Baba has been proclaimed guilty in a rape case, by CBI Court, Panchkula; many sections of our system and society should sit and introspect about the patterns, which are emerging from these behavioural patterns of many sections of our society, especially seen in the followers of some Babas, it may be Baba Ram Rahim, may be Asaram, or it may be Baba Rampal.

Who are they?

If some sections of society are behaving in a peculiar way, again and again, why the society, in general, is not taking note of this pattern. If we see closely, the majority of followers of these Babas come from the marginalised sections of society. At least, they do not come from the affluent class of the society. If you do not like to call them coming from marginalized section of the society; I am ready to discount it a bit, but, on all parameters, they come from the lower middle class of the society.

In contrast to other Babas like Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, who are mainly followed by the creamy sections of the society,  these babas are rarely seem to be followed by the intellectual, affluent and creamy sections of the society. 

Even after 70 years of independence, if some sections of our society are still prone to be guided and goaded by some religious Gurus with dubious credentials, we have to see, where the roots of this phenomena are.  Whether our education system is lacking on some aspects; or we have failed to evolve as a mature society or our thought patterns and rational thinking has failed to percolate to the lowest rate of the society. Just think of this.

Lack of Heroes

Why the society at large is following these Babas? Just think, if we have to follow someone or have to emulate someone; are we having some role models in the society. All the idols made in our contemporary society get cracked this way or that way, after being exposed to their weaknesses and shortcomings, be they may be from politics, film or sports.  Not to wonder, people find these Baba's infallible and give them a place in their belief system. 

Disbelief with the Law and Order

There is a big gap between our law enforcement agencies and marginalized sections of society. if you still believe that our law enforcement agencies like the police are working in a rational way, you should just visit a jail where anyone can see, how innocent, poor, homeless and many a time, people who dared to fight with the system are been cramped without any reason or logic, on flimsy grounds. Just because some big case was to be cracked by the police, under pressure from higher-ups, they simply find some scapegoats and fill in the jail.

Leave Police stations of the remote areas of this great country, just visit a police station of Delhi NCR, in all probability, you will find that that in a lot of police stations, people are languishing for the days together in the most inhuman condition, just because of their relatives or families are unable to fill big bellies of some Police Wala. Let grand ideas enshrined in our Constitution, remain on the papers.

How can you think, these people must be having some great belief in your law and order system. When, they are reacting en masse, in a very crude way, they are just expressing their pent up anger. Their subconscious believes that their baba is also being framed in the same fashion, they have been framed again and again over time, And the way over law and order system is working against the marginalized sections of Society, you cannot create a belief system in them in favor of our police or other enforcement agencies. This is a Stark reality, and we should face it.

What about media

People attacking and burning vehicles and OB vans of media houses have become a common sight in these type of incidents. Instead of using lofty words about themselves, Media houses and the press should introspect and find the reason behind this bizarre behaviour of a common man. Recently, I was passing through a tumultuous phase of my life. Some media houses approached me and informed that we are being paid so and so amount for running propaganda against you.  If you want to stop this false propaganda in the press against you, this will be the price and if you want to run counter-propaganda,  there is another rate list. These offers were made to me without any blink. I lately refused the offer, but it cost me and my reputation very dearly, having done irreparable damage. The truth is that sometimes, I as well as my family think that I should have taken up the offer,  despite being against my ethos and values.

If this is the condition of our press, why a common man should not believe that their Baba or any other person is being subjected to media trial due to some vested interests.

Our legal system

Not to say anything about the condition of Judiciary, especially at the lower level. Even if some small Babu of the court smiles at you in the court, it is going to cost you Rs. 100 to Rs. 1000 depending on your status in the society and paying capacity. I pray to God that the order of Supreme Court for installation of CCTV cameras in trial courts and tribunals across the country, will do something to stop this cancer.

A common man and a man At the lowest strata of the society have reason to believe that the justice is meant only for the persons, who have money, contacts and other resources and if he does not have these, he is bound to be denied even the basic justice. When he finds this rot in his life, he is compelled to believe that his baba is also being subjected to that fate.
