Loss of Samajwadi Party = Gain of Modi in General Election, 2014

My journey from the industry in Varanasi, where I had gone for Vastu Audit, to my destination in Mirzapur was not very far, but due to pathetic condition of the road was taking too long. Dubeyji, who was driving the car, was humming a local folk song.

His comment about Four and half Chief Ministers, although a bit funny and sarcastic, was probably very near to the realities, being faced by the common man of this big state called Uttar Pradesh. Dubeyji broke his tune and told me in a very sad voice, सर! बड़े अरमान से दिए थे इस लौंडे को वोट (Sir, I had voted this boy/ Youngman with much hope). Here he was referring to Akhilesh Singh Yadav, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

Apparently, his hopes and expectations were shattered. I could see his disappointment in his voice. Apparently he might have identified with Akhilesh Singh Yadav, being of the same age/ generation and he was feeling he was wrong. I prodded, Dubeyji, whom you are going to vote? Modi; was the prompt reply. Narendra Modi, BJP’s prime ministerial candidate. OK! What to ask next, I tried hard. “Dubeyji, you are a Brahmin.” “Yes.” Dubeyji was emphatic. “Last time in the state elections, you voted for an OBC and are repenting. You want to repeat that mistake again?” I was expecting, and that correctly, that Dubeyji was knowing that Narendra Modi is also an OBC. OBC is acronym for Other Backward Castes.

Narendra Modi, a favorite for Elections 2014 in Uttar Pradesh

साब, पेट से बड़ी जात नहीं होती. ई सर्कार में न रोटी सुरक्षित हैं न इज्जत. (sir, in this Government, neither bread is safe, nor respect). I could not understand, whether he was disappointed with Congress Government in the center at Delhi or State Government of Samajvadi Party in Lucknow. But it was certain, he was not happy with the current setup and the Law of Reincarnation Raw.

“Whether Modi will do something positive for the common people?” “Yes, I firmly believe. He will do some miracle. अकेला आदमी हैं. जातपात से मतलब नहीं (He is a bachelor. Not do anything with caste system).”

It is a general belief in India that why a bachelor will corrupt practices for amassing wealth. I was not in a mood to counter his belief.
He was thinking something. Suddenly he spoke, this time only Modi and no one else. “What about Kejariwal.” I was inquiring about possibility of Aam AAdmi Party in the general elections. “Don’t know”. Either he was untouched with all the excitement AAP has generated in Delhi and surroundings; or corruption was not an issue for him.

AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) under Aravind Kejariwal, yet to touch the cord of UP masses

In the next a few hours, I knew that Narendra Modi was going to make landslide votes to BJP at least in this area of India. More about Narendra Modi wave in UP tomorrow.
