God Krishna says in the Gita—
Sahayajna Praja SrasÚa Purovacha Praja pati |
Anena Prasavisyadhvamesa VoastvisÚa Kamadhuk ||

Meaning of the Sloka: Before the existence of the universe, Prajapati Brahma – the ultimate creator, the everlasting source of all existence, had created Yagya & begun the process of generation and expansion of cosmic powers and their unlimited expressions resulting in the creation and appearance of Nature.

Yagya- An Introduction
Yagya or Yajna is also glorified as “Yajooaya Sarvakamdhuk”, the basis of fulfilling all wishes”. This appears to be exact in view of the positive effects, at mental, physical and spiritual levels, of performing Yagya or Havan and perfect elevation of life by accepting the universal philosophy of Yajna in action.

In physical terms, Yagya (havan, homam or agnihotra) is a process of selfless sacrifice for selfishness, ego and material attachments. The philosophy of Yagya teaches a way of living in harmony, a living style to protect higher humane values - which is the basis of the perfect human culture.

Benefits of Yagya in Our Life
The sacrificial Agni- the divine fire – is a vital component of the Yagya, in which oblations are poured, as exactly what is offered in the fire of sacrifice resulting from the practice of Vedic times. The entire process of Yajna is executed to please the Deities and it is believed that whatsoever is offered in Yajna reaches to the Deities, in other words, to the energies, which control the Universe.

 “Agni Mode Purohitam” The first exposure of Rig Veda have given understanding of burning fire to the first man on the earth. “Fire worship” is principal in one form or the other in almost every culture or religion. In and Indian culture or Hindu religion, the sacrificial agni of Yagya is of great importance.

Atharva Veda (9.15.14) describes Yagya or Yajna as: “Ayam Yajna Vishvasya Bhuvanasya Nabheehiâ” indicating Yagya as the important process of manifestation of nature.

Yagyas remove your negative karma and co-create future positive karma. It not only helps in neutralizing difficulties, problems or blockages, but they can also prevent upcoming negative occurrences. Yagnas or Yagya are specific for achieving desirable goals or desires.

Yagya Rituals and Customs
Yagya/ Homa is a Vedic ritual or procedure and mantra chanting is its essential component. The Yagya is designed to invoke and pray Deities to help in restoring health and environmental balance. It is a very powerful way to cleanse mind, body and atman or soul together. Yagya or Havan creates a ripple effect in the cosmos conveying positive results intended for the person.

A head Vedic pundit mainly conducts the whole Vedic process with a number of additional Pandits playing important roles, by reciting Vedic verses. The list of items offered in Fire as oblations in the Yagna Vidhi, include ghee (Clarified butter), milk, grain, herbs, cakes etc. The duration of a Yajna depends on the type of Yagya; some can last a few minutes, some for an hour or some for a day and several even last for years, with priests continuously providing to the gods. Some Yajnas are executed secretly; others with a large number of people in attendance. These days, only a few people know how to execute these sacrifices, in an authentic way.
